Hummel

Hummel is German for bumblebee, the creature that according to legend should not be able to fly and flies anyway. The brand was born in Hamburg in 1923, when the Messmer brothers launched some of the world's first football boots, and became Danish in 1956 through Bernhard Weckenbrock, the visionary who gave it an identity and invented the famous chevrons, the arrows running down the sleeves that make any shirt recognisable from a hundred metres. The 1980s were its highest flight: Butragueño's Real Madrid, Tottenham, Aston Villa, Benfica and above all Danish Dynamite, the national team that charmed the 1986 World Cup and in 1992, still with the bumblebee on its chest, became champions of Europe against all logic, just like the insect in the name. Part of the Thornico group since 1999 and based in Aarhus, Hummel today dresses football's outsiders by choice, under the motto Change the World Through Sport. No brand pairs better with clubs that fly above their weight.
