About the country

Angola's place in the green-and-white hoops tradition is modest but genuine. Angolan football, rebuilt after independence in 1975 and years of civil conflict, produced clubs with distinct visual identities — some shaped by Portuguese influence, others developed independently. In this collection, Angola is represented by Sporting Clube de Cabinda, a club from the coastal enclave of Cabinda, the province separated from the rest of the country by a strip of the Democratic Republic of Congo. One shirt, one club, one very specific corner of the map: that is how the archive records Angola's presence in the green-and-white hoops story.
