U.C.C. Pozzuolo 2001/02 Home Shirt

This shirt is the only one in the collection that documents itself: in the lower right corner, printed into the fabric, it reads Maglia Ufficiale, U.C.C. Pozzuolo, Campionato Serie D, 2001-2002, as if the club knew that season deserved a certificate. It is the textile record of the year the union of Pozzuolo's villages played the national championship, with the Enel sponsored Serie D patches on the sleeves, the I Longobardi estate agency on the chest, a name that in the former heartland of the Lombard kingdom is practically heraldry, the green G of a second partner, and on the back the stamp of Manente Sport above a black number 7. The work is by Essegi, the double S brand this collection knows well from another life. The ribbed fabric, polo collar and typography make it a perfect document of Italian dilettante football at the turn of the century. Great shirts tell stories; this one goes further and signs them.
